getting ready to go out

before i became a parent, i remember a mom telling me that if she knew she had to be somewhere with her two kids, aged 5 and 8, she started getting ready an hour in advance.

i have been accused of dawdling my whole life, and for a long time i didn't really know what people meant when they said that. when i'm getting ready to go out, i feel like i'm focused, like i'm trying my hardest.

i think i still dawdle, but i have an underlying rushingness to it that doesn't actually make anything go any faster. that's what great about toddlers- they're the opposite: even when jonah's running, he's not rushing. i could learn a thing or two from him.
