snow (with snowshoes checked out from the library's bookmobile!)...
an obsession with jupiter, and crafts ranging from paintings to lollipops.

when my parents moved to washington dc i don't think any of us were really expecting it to be so beautiful in terms of the landscape. i don't have many good pictures but it's a lot greener than what i had imagined. certainly has many of the problems you would expect, but there are many great things about it...
and now back to the wonderful culture shock of returning home.
some also end up being blind- i love that. and i love the moodiness of black and white, playing with the different tones...

Invitation
by Mary Oliver
Oh do you have time
to linger
for just a little while
out of your busy
and very important day
for the goldfinches
that have gathered
in a field of thistles
for a musical battle,
to see who can sing
the highest note,
or the lowest,
or the most expressive of mirth,
or the most tender?
Their strong, blunt beaks
drink the air
as they strive
melodiously
not for your sake
and not for mine
and not for the sake of winning
but for sheer delight and gratitude—
believe us, they say,
it is a serious thing
just to be alive
on this fresh morning
in the broken world.
I beg of you,
do not walk by
without pausing
to attend to this
rather ridiculous performance.
It could mean something.
It could mean everything.
It could be what Rilke meant, when he wrote:
You must change your life.

jonah named her posalie- a name he uses often when pretending to be a dog (or cat or rabbit or koala). posalie tree, actually, is her full name. it is so wonderful to have her. and great for cedar to have a friend.
